Hi !! I would like to discuss this idea, why not build houses under the ground?
Why not build the house under the ground? After all, it's warm, especially not prevent such houses in the northern latitudes.
In such houses, where much of the underground, heating was due to underground heat of the earth, in deep hot air, even in the subway which is also under the ground, too warm. Warm air rises and warms the upper floors of the building, and the cold fell down and did ventilation of the lower ground floor. Why not build such homes in the north? After all, saving money on heating, warm earth itself gave free. The main thing that the lower floors have been sealed against water.

And with every meter of the ground temperature will rise.

and another Eco city Architectural bureau "AB Alice" has developed an eco-city project, which is proposed to build peace in the Yakut town. There, in the permafrost, the architects propose to create a modern garden city, which will be the center of attraction for locals and tourists. The construction of "Eco-city 2020" plan in place kimberlite pipe "Peace" - one of the world's largest open-cast mines. Production of diamond-bearing kimberlite ore at this place discontinued in June 2001, and now the waste pit depth of over 550 meters and a diameter of about 1.2 km is proposed to close the transparent dome and build a modern three-level underneath the city for up to 100,000 people. Under the project, the dome will be covered with photovoltaic cells to accumulate solar energy. In addition, the authors write that due to the heat coming from the ground in the resulting amount will be milder climate than the outside of the dome, and it will artificially create a better life for the flora and fauna. Unfortunately, the statement about the heat coming from the ground, is controversial: given that the permafrost in Yakutia lies a much deeper level of 550 meters, and its temperature is close to zero degrees, rely on the temperature gradient of the land is hardly necessary. Also, missed first trimester ground - very tricky thing that can "swim" from the residential warmth. It is known that in the permafrost builders prefer the construction of residential structures on stilts instead of the foundation - so easier to avoid poddtaivaniya soil. In the same case, when the houses are built right on the ground - take serious measures for thermal insulation of the soil. How, then, will receive heat from the earth eco-town - is not entirely clear. Architects still do not share information in more detail, we only know that the city will be divided into three main levels with residential areas and areas for recreation and entertainment. Let's hope that soon there will be additional information that allows the project to look at more closely.
